The final public release of iOS 9.2.1 comes two weeks after Apple seeded beta 2 and about a month after first beta of iOS 9.2.1 was seeded to both developers and public beta testers. It also comes a week after Apple seeded first iOS 9.3 beta which brings major new features such as Night Shift to iPhone and iPad.
iOS 9.2.1 is mainly a minor bug fix release. Full official change-log is as follows:
This update contains security updates and bug fixes including a fix for an issue that could prevent the completion of app installation when using an MDM server. If you are jailbroken on iOS 9.0-9.0.2, it is important to know that currently there is no public jailbreak available for iOS 9.1+ devices. You might want to stay away from iOS 9.2.1 until a jailbreak tool is made available for iOS 9.1, 9.2 and 9.2.1.
If you don’t care about jailbreaking though, you can update your device to iOS 9.2.1 using OTA (Over-The-Air) method. Simply head to Settings > General > Software Update and update directly from there.
Alternatively, if you want to clean install iOS 9.2.1, you can do so by restoring the IPSW file from iTunes. Just make sure you backup everything before hitting that Restore iPhone button.
